General:
Q: Is searching for Christmas lights displays the only thing I can do at this site?
A: we also show listings for Christmas pageants and plays as well as for local businesses who wish to offer a discount to Christmas light seekers. In addition, you can listen to music, watch holiday movies, play games, send an ecard and many more things. Check the sidebar to the left, we're always adding new features.
Q: Do I have to register to use this site?
A: Absolutely not! Search as much as you like, no registration necessary. If you wish to submit a listing, we do ask for your valid email address in case there is any confusion over your listing (strange zip code, incomplete address, or video/website URL not working), but we do not sign you up for any newsletter nor will we sell your email address. We hate spam, too.
Q: How much does it cost to search for Christmas lights or submit a site?
A: Nothing! Even local businesses can submit a listing for free.
Q: I'm not getting any results for Christmas lights! Why is that?
A: Try widening your search. Search for your entire city or for zip codes a little further away. If you've added extra features that you want to see, try removing them and see if you get some Christmas lights that way. If you're still not getting any results, then it's possible that nobody has added any for your area yet. If you know of some good Christmas light displays, go ahead and add them!
Q: It says that there are lots of Christmas light displays in my area, but I'm not seeing very many; why not?
A: Due to browser limitations, we can only show you a maximum of the 20 newest results on the map. If we were to display more than that, your browser might crash. Try narrowing your search results to a different size or features you especially like.
Q: It says that I have a number of results for Christmas lights, but I'm not seeing anything on the map! Help!
A: Try zooming out or clicking on the map and dragging it around. Large areas and certain zip codes will display addresses for Christmas lights outside of the default viewing window. If you zoom out, you should be able to see them.
Q: Map? I'm not seeing any map after I search.
A: First, you need to have Javascript enabled to view the map (sorry!). If you have Javascript enabled and you're still not seeing anything, it sometimes takes a little while longer than usual for Google to respond and so your map doesn't get displayed with the rest of the page. Refreshing the page after a minute might fix the problem or you could try another browser. If you're still not seeing any map, please enjoy the text portion of our Christmas lights listings anyway.
Q: I want to be able to print out a list of Christmas lights in my area, without any images.
A: Soon, you'll be able to print out up to 100 results in your area at a time. Until then, you can always right click on the results page, choose 'Select All', right click again and 'Copy'. You can then paste the list of Christmas light displays into a text editor such as NotePad or WordPad for easy printing. Or, if you'd rather not do that, why not add some Christmas lights of your own or browse the other features of our site while you're waiting?
Submission:
Q: I have a photo of my Christmas lights, can I submit a photo?
A: Yes, but due to bandwidth issues, we cannot host the images here. Please upload them to a photo sharing site such as Flikr, Imageshack, Photobucket, etc. and put the direct link to the photo in the 'website' box when you submit your site. We will check the photo for content and approve it as long as it is appropriate and family-friendly.
Q: How long before my submission is listed?
A: It depends on how many people are ahead of you. It should take 1-2 days, but if things get really busy it could take up to a week. But we do try to approve submissions as soon as they are sent in.
